| 10/22/08 - The Rome Free Academy Lady Knights lost to Auburn in a close match in a 1st round AA girls soccer sectional match-up hosted at RFA Stadium. The half time score was 0-0. The final was 2-1 Auburn. Jackie Welch scored RFA's goal with assists from Erin Thomas and Molly Messenger. Rome's keeper Emma Duchesneau had 10 saves in the net. Auburn's goals were scored by Sarah Green and Brittany Rabuano. Marissa Slayton and Laura Taylor had assists. Ginny Porten, Auburn's keeper, had 12 saves. | 10/17/08 - The Rome Free Academy Lady Knights finished out their regular season with a 1-0 double overtime league win on the road against the Nottingham Bull Dogs. The game was all knotted up at the end of regulation 0-0, despite a solid dominating attack by the Lady Knights. The Nottingham goal keeper, Emily Daniels, did a great job to keep the game close, with 19 saves on the night. The game was peppered with aggressive play and Rome finally broke through at 5:14 in the 2nd OT period to knock in what proved to be the game winning goal by Sarah Southwell from Leigh Shoemaker. Leigh won the ball in the corner of Nottingham's end and served it back to Sarah from just outside the 18 yard box and nailed a shot passed Daniel's hands into the upper 90 of the far post. Rome's defense was outstanding throughout and contributed to allow just 2 shots on Rome's keeper Emma Duchesneau, who was credited with 2 saves. Karina Swanson also went in goal for Rome and contributed with Duchesneau in earning Rome's 9th shutout of the season.. The Lady Knights finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the league, which set a new school record on both accounts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 10/14/08 - The Rome Free Academy Lady Knights defeated Henninger at home on Senior Night by the score of 7-0. The half-time score was 2-0. Rome's offense really kicked into full gear in the second half. Erin Thomas led the Knights with 2 goals and 2 assists and Jackie Welch followed with 1 goal and 2 assists. Sarah Southwell also chipped in 1 goal and had 1 assist. Emma Duchesneau had 9 saves in the net for Rome and Karina Swanson had 4 saves. Duchesneau earned her 8th shut-out of the season. Rome out shot the Henninger Black Knights 24 to 14. Rome improves to 5-4-2 in the league and 9-6-2 overall. | 10/12/08 - The RFA Lady Knights were crowned Tournament Champions defeating Oneida 1-0 in the 10th Annual Joe Dundon Memorial Tournament Championship Game. Danielle Pauba scored the winning goal with an assist from Jackie Welch with 3:31 in the first half. Rome out shot Oneida 17 to 6. Oneida's keeper Beth Kann had 16 saves to keep the score close. Rome's keeper Emma Duchesneau earned her 7th shut-out of the year and had 7 saves. The Lady Knights celebrate "Senior Night" on Tuesday, October 14th at 7 p.m. at the stadium when they take on the Henninger Black Knights in the CNYCL league match-up. | 10/9/08 - RFA's Lady Knights battled at home to a 1-1 tie with league foe, Cicero-North Syracuse. C-NS got on the board first at 38:07 in the first half off a shot from outside the 18 by Mariah Centolella. Rome's Sarah Southwell answered with the equalizer off an assist from Hilary Baker at 22:51. The first half ended 1-1. Neither team would bend for the next 60 minutes with Rome out shooting C-NS 14 shots to 5. Rome's keeper Emma Duchesneau had 9 saves in the net. C-NS's keeper Chelsea Dunay had 18 saves on the night. Rome was lead offensively by Erin Thomas and Sarah Southwell with 2 goals and 1 assist each. Leigh Shoemaker knocked in 1 goal and 2 assists and Molly Messenger, Alyssa Torres, Brittany Bartlett and Amanda Ingham each added 1 goal in the rout. Danielle Pauba and Emma Duchesneau contributed with 1 assist. In the net for RFA, were Emma Duchesneau with 3 saves and Karina Swanson with 1 save. Rome's defense was solid allowing just 6 shots by Corcoran. RFA improves to 6-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the league. | 10-2-08 - The Rome Free Academy Lady Knights took on the West Genesee Wildcats at home in a league game and dominated them on offense and defense the entire night. Erin Thomas knocked in Rome's goal from inside the 18 into the upper 90 off an oustanding pass from Kaitlin Fahey with 11:03 left to play in the first half. Rome had 19 shots on goal and West Genny had 13. Rome's defense once again was outstanding and stepped up big to deny West Genny scoring opportunities. Everyone from defense to mids to forwards played hard on defense and offense. Rome's keeper, Emma Duchesneau, had 14 saves in net and was key to RFA's success. This was a HUGE win for RFA, as they upped their record to 5-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the league. | 9-30-08 - The RFA Lady Knights soccer team dropped a close league game on the road to Auburn. The score through 60 minutes of play was 0-0. Auburn scored their first goal at 20:45 in the 2nd half and their secon goal at 9:12. Rome was unable to convert a PK at 3:25, as it just hit the cross bar. The final score was 2-0 Auburn. Emma Duchesneau had 7 saves in the net for Rome. Rome hosts West Genesee Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the stadium for Fan Appreciation Night. | 9/27/08 - The RFA Lady Knights soccer team battled hard on the road in heavy rain against Liverpool on Saturday. The score was 0-0 until the 9th minute of the first half when Liverpool knocked in the go ahead goal. The first half ended 1-0. Liverpool put in their second goal with a shot from the corner of the 18 just under the crossbar with 10 minutes left in the contest to put the Warriors up 2-0. Two minutes later Liverpool was awarded a PK which they converted and the game ended 3-0. Emma Duchesneau was outstanding in the goal for RFA with 15 saves. | 9-26-08 - The RFA Lady Knights turned back the F-M Hornets 3-2 in a league contest. This was an amazing game for the Lady Knights who jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of the first half. F-M did not fold and in the first 12 minutes of the second half, they got back 2 of the 3 goals to make it 3-2. Rome stepped it up big on defense the entire evening, but really did an outstanding job in the second half to keep F-M at bay. Leading RFA offensively were: Erin Thomas (1-1), Jackie Welch (1-0), Danielle Pauba (1-0), Sarah Southwell (0-1) and Hannah Charney (0-1). Rome's Keeper Emma Duchesneau was outstanding in the goal with 14 saves. Rome improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the league. | 10-12-08 - RFA JV Girls won the 10th Annual Joe Dundon Memorial Tournament defeating Ilion in the first round 9-0 and beating Oneida in a shootout 3-1. The win makes the RFA JV team the first team in the school's history (JV or Varsity Girls) to win 2 tournaments in the same year. The team also won the Home Labor Day Tournament by defeating Cortland 1-0 in the opening game and then New Hartford 1-0 in double overtime to win the championship there. The team played stellar defense throughout the tournament - defense consisted of Rachael Hojnacki, Natalie Streifert, Caitlyn Gallagher and Morgann Smith. Players of the game were: Jenna Gillen - Selected by Ilion in Game 1 and Rachael Hojnacki - selected by Oneida in Game 2. | 10/16/08 - Modified was on the road for their last game of the season on Thursday against Oneida. The talented young Rome team was defeated by a close score of 3-1. The young Rome team has continued to show growth and improvement since the start of the season. Success is not measured by wins and losses, but how a team plays and improves. We know next year promises to be an amazing year for our modified girls. Scoring for Rome in the Oneida contest was Brooke Miller with the goal and Marisa Castro had the assist.
